Provide tax relief for working families

To address the wealth and income inequality that our families face, we must establish a fair tax code system to make the wealthiest people and corporations in Cook County pay their fair share of taxes.

Our elected leaders have relied on raising property taxes and sales taxes on working-class and middle-class families while the wealthiest people and corporations pay little to nothing in taxes.

As Commissioner, I will work to: 

  • Close loopholes in our tax code that allow downtown property owners and major corporations to pay little to nothing in property taxes.

  • ‍Work with the Cook County Assessor’s Office to reform the property tax formula to lower taxes for working and middle-class homeowners.

  • ‍Support efforts to reduce the tax burden on working and middle-class residents and create a progressive revenue system by ending the flat tax in Illinois and make the ultra-rich pay their fair share
